Wildlife Photography: Have you panned it yet?

January 24, 2014

If you can write a post criticizing wildlife photography, please do. It’s the Flavour Of The Moment.
Even the most mild and qualified criticism will do. Adopt a holy, halo-over-head “I feel so bad when I see evil wildlife photographers” pose.

Imply that photography should never have been invented.

Pretend that wildlife watchers without cameras, and indeed, that people who are not interested in wildlife, can do as much damage, or more, than the ones who are interested. Don’t bother to educate photographers about wildlife ethics, but keep complaining about how they transgress the rules. It feels so good to criticize someone else for something….can any pro wildlife photographer claim that they have never, ever, adopted a less than ethical approach?

SOME wildlife photographers do transgress..but so do a lot of others, why don’t we hear anything about them? Because CWP is the Flavour Of The Moment!

The poor guy who’s just bought himself a nice DSLR must pay for the sins of someone who went and trampled over a bird’s nest. No matter that this guy is quite innocent….they belong to the Same Club, so brand them all.

Assume that all newbies are going to be irresponsible. No One Loves Wildlife Like You Do. You are the Brahmin of Binoculars, and you look down upon the Pariah with his DSLR…

And then, of course, when someone tells you that they’ve seen x, or y, or z specimen of the animal kingdom, ask, “Do you have a photo?”

Have you made the post yet?

Age, and maturity

September 27, 2011

I don’t know why my blog (Live Journal) suddenly opened at the same date, but it did, and

here

is what I wrote, 3 X 365 days ago!

Still working on it….yes, a little more acceptance, but not enough!

I need help!

Can someone tell me how to downsize that pic in my last post to manageable proportions please? Thanks in advance..

How are they numbered?

December 11, 2007

My last blog entry was numbered thus:

http://deponti.livejournal.com/322000.html

I want to know…how are my blog entries numbered? How did they reach that 322,000 number? Would it not be simpler to have each user’s entries numbered 1,2, 3 and so on? Obviously there is some geek explanation of this…which I don’t know as yet.

What did I post on this day last year?

I started the name as a joke…

August 24, 2007

I chose the name de Ponti as it’s a way of pronouncing what my daughter’s friends used to call me; but just now I was looking for a post and I googled

deponti august 2006

and this is the first entry I got:

Heh, heh, my last few posts have been musings, with no pictures…because some (hopefully) lovely pics of the Serengeti and Mt Kilimanjaro are going to come along soon…wish us a good trip and great sightings please!

But let me include this wonderful misty view of the hill ranges from Nandi Hills…

My friends on LJ…I am sure, that if I don’t access it for even a day, you will make the most interesting and amazing posts…oh, well, I will catch up sooner or later.

Why…

March 8, 2007

Why is it that when I am idle and sitting in front of my laptop, no one seems to post anything..but let me be busy for a day (or even half a day), that’s the signal for the friends to post in their hundreds?

And…why do some insurance companies have a condition that if you have claimed insurance for some particular illness or surgery, you cannot claim for it for the next four years, even if you are paying for your premiums? Isn’t continued cover for a major illness the whole point of paying high premiums for an insurance policy?

Oh…I am not wishing anyone for Women’s Day…I don’t really like tokenism…what about the other 364 days? Every day is Mother’s Day and Father’s Day and Buy An Expensive Card from Hallmark Day…

Perfect Torrent

October 23, 2006

Yesterday, I sat at home through the afternoon, waiting for a friend so that we could work on something of his together…I was checking LJ every now and then and there were HARDLY any posts.

Today, I take a train to Chennai and use a slow dialup connection…and there have been a perfect SLEW of posts. A rant on awful customers, cockroaches eating kolams, a beautiful picture of fall leaves, another recounting of a accident to a car wheel thanks to bad roads, a birthday wish ( 😀 ), a post about Rabindranath Tagore, several thought-provoking posts, a delightful rendition of Carnatic music, a slurp-sounding recipe….

I do love LJ and my online friends. I think you all keep me thinking…and young at heart!
