The a-door-able baby….

September 27, 2013

Why is he rushing to get that door?

To get to the door-closer:

This has become his most favourite “toy” and it’s also the cleanest thing in the house, thanks to his licking it thoroughly!

Sometimes he gives me a saucy smile…

And sometimes it’s a “sketchy” smile!

He’s soooooo dear to me….

Playing Games Together

August 15, 2013

Here we are, playing “Go Fish”, a set-making game..

Playing games together allows a family to bond…and teaches a child a lot more than just how to play that game.

Jumping, cackling, whistling, and crowning!

July 26, 2013

When people jump to entertain him, he cackles…

and whistles so high, I call him a friend of all the dogs in the neighbourhood!

He’s really bright-eyed, I don’t know about bushy-tailed!

Meanwhile, we have our Pink Princess crowning the Pink King:

Having put on her “sumin shoes” for some waterplay at her daycare, she’s also putting on, as she says, some “shoe gloves”!

Such a delight being with these two…!

Baby Beluga…the song, and for real!

July 12, 2013

Many years ago, when I visited my cousin Harini, her young son Dushyant sang this song very sweetly:

I was entranced, and when KTB arrived, this was one of the songs I sang to her, too…it’s one of her favourites now (who knows how long it will last?!)

When we went to Chicago and visited the Shedd Aquarium, I was delighted to see an actual baby Beluga whale, sporting in the water with its mother. I took some photos of the baby enjoying itself, playing with a toy, too…

To me, a baby anything is beautiful, but the sight of this baby Beluga with its toy starfish, swimming happily with its mother, will be a very happy memory.

The Bard and the birds

May 22, 2013

I went to see Twelfth Night at Forest Park.
But it had not yet become dark.
I went to hear some immortal words;
But everywhere I saw the birds.

In the trees of Shakespeare’s Glen,
I saw a little Carolina Wren.
There was a pretty Northern Flicker,
Taking pity upon this clicker.

I looked up and saw two Mourning Doves
Sitting…and watching,…on a wire above.
A family of pretty Kildeer
Came quite near, without too much fear.

Robins and Starlings came to witness the sight
Of a rehearsal of Twelfth Night.
But the biggest fans of the famous Bard
Seemed to be the waddling Mallards!

Several of these ran up eagerly
And, along with the audience, settled to see
A famous play…I’m sure its creator
Never imagined birds watching his theatre!

I’ve put up some of the photos of the birds at the rehearsal of the play…

They are the commonest birds imaginable…but they utterly delighted me! Where else can I get Art and Nature together like this, except Forest Park?

Even when we’ve taken out the *regular* contents, there’s more in the box….

The boxes come with fingers…

Five fingers become ten…

Children….

January 27, 2013

260113 svnhalli children

In the sunshine, the children play.
Cheerful shouts, and innocence.
Adulthood is yet a while away…
Cares and worries, worldly-sense…

But right now, they laugh together,
In the welcome, wintry sun.
I look at them, and wonder whether
They’ll look back on this day of fun.

Our immortality lies in our children.
I’m off to welcome the latest one.
I love children…so then
It’ll be a joy to greet my grandson.

Children’s toy…

October 9, 2012

When there are power cuts for long periods, when money is an issue, children are happy with traditional toys, too. Here’s a video of a boy with a toy:

And here are the children, waving happily to Amith and me as we drive away!

Who knows where these children will be, in the future…right now, they are in the State, not only of Karnataka, but the universal one, of Innocence…

Disney’s “Aladdin” : Musical at the Muny, 080712

July 10, 2012

It was a wonderful production of the Disney musical. I was asked not to take videos, so I did not. There were “Ali” fez-es and “Jasmine” tiaras being given away, and a magician entertained everyone, before the actual show. In spite of the thunderstorm, it was a wonderful evening, as Dawn, Rani and I had dinner (I made mooli parathas, buttermilk and dal) and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly…our row (Z, the last one) was the only covered one!

Here are some images from the show…no need for words!
