Forms of poetry and verse

March 2, 2017

My friend Janet asked for 10 prompts about which she would write haikus.

To this, someone asked:

“Yeh haiku kaiku?” (Why this haiku?)

And my response was:

When we cannot think
Straight, or write words as is done–
We pen a haiku!

To this Chiddu said:

I love to ride my bike-u
This is my 1st two line haiku!

and I responded with a limerick:

When we talked of haiku
And someone asked, “Yeh kaiku?”
Though you made a bhool
And you broke the rule
Your haiku on baiku…I laiku!

(bhool=mistake in Hindi)

I love bu**-shi##ing in verse!

“Top” fun…no electricity required…and it’s a lot of fun! Blr, 131216

December 14, 2016

I decided to show K2 how tops work, and I wondered if I still had the old skill. The first two tries did not work, but on the 3rd attempt…

(I had to throw the top and then pick up the camera!)

Here’s K2 demonstrating the best way to enjoy a spinning top.

Here’s the top:

Obviously, watching it upside down between one’s feet is good:

Then he comes closer, only to be stopped by my warning not to touch it!

IMG_3177//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js

We had an hour or so of this…I hope, one day, to see him very proficient with the top, too!

Traditional pastimes for children, which are delightful, and require no electricity!

Under the Ash tree swing the little one, and I.

The ash tree’s grown so gracefully; the leaves peep at the sky.

Others also take their turn on this quickly-strung-up swing.

Swinging in the cool, crisp weather means joy in everything!

Drawing, chatting, and playing house, STL, 270814

August 28, 2014

KTB’s drawing is improving apace; here she is, explaining who the people are (her friends, Ananya and Aditi, along with Teddy Naryanan, who was given to her mother by her mother’s uncle in 1988…and Pinky Bear, who was a gift from KTB’s great grandmother.)…and how they are sleeping:

She drew a cat:

And her parents

While video-chatting to her Nana and Grandpa in Maine:

I rig up a “house” for her (which she really loves to play at) after loud complaints that her brother was messing up the one she built for herself on the corner of the sofa:

DSC08340

She enjoys being in it:

DSC08335

She likes looking out, once in a while:

She’s describing her pets in her house, and her purse:

Here’s the purse, held out for inspection:’

Kalyan looks very innocent:

But..off course Kallubhai has to get in on the act here too:

He offsets the act of invasion with a charming smile:

Here’s KTB in her “house”, with the Bad Dog Walker (who as usual makes a beeline for the camera):

Due to Kallubhai’s truly terrible habit of heading directly for the camera every time he sees it, most of my shots of him look like this:

KTB finally comes out through what is apparently a side entrance:

Summer, and surgery, 190814

August 20, 2014

Even if school has begun, summer evenings are fun times.

DSC08164

Kobe is the little

Shih Tzu

(no, that’s not Shit Su, that name comes from the Chinese for Lion Dog!) that the neighbours, Sandy and Michael, have.

When the mother is very allergic to cats and dogs, the family can’t have pets, but the next best thing is playing with the Dog-Next-Door! (That’s Mike in the background.)

DSC08168

As Sandy trims the lawn, Kobe (named after Kobe Bryant), frolics with KTB.

DSC08169

Green grass and blue skies are made to run and jump around.

And then sit and communicate, without words:

Meanwhile, the brother goes into surgery for

adenoidectomy

not with any apprehension, but a huge joy at all the gadgets surrounding him!

The toys in the children’s ward are great, too!

And can you believe how chipper he is, back home in the evening after the surgery was successfully done:

Here’s our summer girl…

and our surgery boy:

Meanwhile, in STL….

May 31, 2014

I’m busy posting about my Kudremukh program, but when The Boods intervene, they take priority.

So here’s The Booda, who was given this sleeveless tee (it’s called a wife-beater, no doubt after the ‘macho’ hunks who wear it and indulge in that particular pastime!):

And AM writes that she and her daughter are usually basket cases in the morning:
